I would like to thank Liz B for teaching me to eat steak, at home that is! You just pick it up with your fingers and eat it! hahaha When you are in a public place, this looks bad though! i have the use now of my BPI hand so I can manage, though I tend to get some on the floor! Anthony too a fork and filed down one side, as to make it sharp like a knife. It worked ok but he did cut his mouth a few times! Best of luck!

From the word go I've asked the waiter to have them cut up my food in the kitchen and I've only had one bad reaction in 24 years (last year, here in NZ, the waitress laughed.....but not for long.....). They really don't mind.

That ULU knife looks like a terrific bit of kit! Trouble is, if I carried that around with me to resaurants and such I would be arrested for carrying a lethal weapon!!

Joking apart tho, eating out has never been a problem for me, even when its a serve yourself buffet. They NEVER leave a space where you can put the plate down to ladle the food on, so, if I'm on my own, I ask the nearest good looking fellah to help me out! Two results here; no embarrasing juggling of the plate AND you make a new friend at the same time! Perfect!

hi Narelle & michael!

yup, i help mum take laundry off the line the same way. putting it ON the line is a different story tho'! lol.

i suppose some men's shoes are different than women's (for tying up vs slipping on, before the smart alecks pipe up *grin), but a few months after my injury, my mum bought me the best gift ever -- runners that have velcro! i LOVE velcro! lol

i tend to want to see if i can do something first before asking, but i've also learned to ask when needed. do you think michael could figure out how to do a bra for me? lol

thanks for your encouragement.

my best to you both,

hugs,

jan

jen i can't believe a waitress would laugh at that request! i think i would have thumped her! -- with me bad arm, so i didn't feel it =o)

to be honest, i'd never thought of asking, but it seems to be almost routine. i'll try it next time i go out.

the one place where they do pamper me tho' is our local indian restaurant. ever since my injury, the owner serves me (and only me - the rest at the table have to fend for themselves!)by putting a bit of each dish on my plate, tho' i think he's trying to fatten me up by the portions he gives me LOL PLUS he sugars and stirs my tea for me LOL i'm quite capable of doing all that myself, but it is nice to have a young man cater to me like that now and then lol!

hugs,

jan

oooh! great idea lizzie! i've actually found that it's the younger guys that offer to help me in those situations - and at grocery stores, etc.

i like the way you point out those "benefits" - woman after my own heart! =o)

hugs,

jan
