looking for HELp for my brother

Hi, my name is Linda and I'm looking for some help,answering some ?'s about TBPI.My brother was in a motorcycle accident on 7/23/05.So its been about 2 months and we still feel in the dark. we just went on 9/12 for a emg test,and met with a surgeon on 9/19.He has no movement of his left arm, can move his shoulder alittle thats it! They said he had no avulsions from a ct myelogram which was done the same day he was released from the hospital. when the EMG
was done they said he a 1 avulsion but did not say which one.then at the surgeon's office he said he did not have any.The hospital had set up appointments with
several different dotors,A orthopaedic surgeon,and a neurosurgeon. the orthopaedic surgeon was the first one we seen.we asked about having an appointment with a neurosurgeon the following week,he said he would be willing to work with him.Next thing we knew he came back in the room and said he cancelled that appt. for us.Go figure! when asked how many cases he had seen,he could'nt even give a number, all he said was not many. that not the kind of dr. I would want working on me. He seemed to anxious, and could not give us much hope even after surgery. We live in the central shenandoah valley of virginia. Does any one know of any good Dr. anywhere.There is so much about this injury that we don't understand. If anyone could please HELP with any information it would be greatly appreciated. I have been reading the message board for about aweek now,it is a great comfort to have someone else to talk to about this. Thanks and God Bless!

The good news is that a ct myelogram is alot better at diagnosing an avulsion than a emg is. My 1st emg said i had avulshed the c5 and c6. a few weeks later i had a ct myelogram and it showed i had streached the c5 an c6 nerve root. then i started seeing recovery at 4 months after thee accident good luck!!

Linda - I had a similar experience -- ended up seeing Dr. Allan Friedman at Duke Univ -- which is not too far from you. He specializes in these kinds of injuries. if you can get there, I'd recommend considering him... Do hope things work out for your brother.

Go Figure, I just saw Dr. Kliot on friday to go over the results of my second emg and he said I had avulsions in c5 and c6. I am scheduled for a ct mylograph next week. I hope to hell the news is different
