Marlyn,
The times that my family and I evacuated Florida from hurricaines we considered ourselves as refugees. It was a terrible time, but a learning experience.I remember being on the road heading back ,wondering what we were going back to. We stopped in Georgia and had a hot meal at a cracker barrel knowing that we would not have electricity for awhile. We asked the manager if we could eat on the porch because we had our dog with us. He said no! you come inside and he let our dog an Aussie come in and stay in his air conditioned office. He stayed and took care of her while we ate. You learn that things are just material and that what is important is that your together with your family. Last year for Jean we stayed not knowing that we would be hit as hard as we did. I still have friends that are still waiting for repairs or to have their new house built. We still have blue roofs in my city. I am so sad for the gulf coast. My prayers are with them also....Judy

In my opinion, either term is correct.....these people are taking refuge from the storm and or the destruction......gayle

I watched Oprah today! Those poor people,I can't believe the death and distruction. May God watch over everyone down there. Oprah had a great point, we need to call the people who made it through this disaster "survivors" not "refugees". They are defintely survivors!

I agree. I watched Oprah too. Survivors is what they are. Had the country, states and towns prepared better, we wouldn't have to use the term Refugees. I am so glad that these people are getting some help now. I am still praying and feel so bad for the parents that got separated from young children.
