Has anyone experienced their child complaining about the primary scar years after the surgery?
A friend of mine has asked me this and has emailed the question to her BPI specialist; however, she has needed to evacuate her home Iin the path of the eye of Katrina) and from the looks of things may come back to a submerged house.
So, if anyone has any idea why the scar might be hurting now or has experienced this, I'd appreciate the feedback to pass on to her when I can get back in touch with her.
Thanks.
Peggy

Re: Another scar question
pEGGY- I am not BPI, but I have had 2 surgeries and a few stiches. Anyway, 2 of my scars get pins and needles, but especially bothersome is the dull ache at the site of the scars in cold or wet weather. I am not sure if this is the kind of pain you are referring to, but I use a warm, wet towel or heating pad to relieve pain.

Hi Peggy, I still get pain from my C-Section scar......when I lean on something ( like the counter when doing dishes ) it is very painful .I also second what Marlyn said..weather changes, pins and needles...and a weird sensation when it is touched.
Good luck to your friend......bless her and her family !

Re: Another scar question
Thanks. I appreciate it.
I've tried to call her cell phone, but of course, all circuits are still busy. I'm so worried for all the people I know that are in N.O. and surrounding areas. Last I heard they were going to the north side of Lake Pontchartrain; I hope they decided to go farther!
Also, a very dear friend and his family I'm hoping are safe but couldn't get ahold last night or this morning.
I feel so sick to my stomache. Anyone who knows anything about me knows how much I love New Orleans (the music, the history, etc) and I go every chance I get. I feel like I am home when I am there and I feel like my home and my extended family are in grave danger.

let me re-state that: I'm worried for ALL the people (the ones I know and all the many that I don't know) that are in harms way from this hurricane.
Pray for the best; prepare for the worst. I've heard that all day. I can pray from here; I hope they are all prepared for the worst.

Re: Another scar question
Ella had her secondary surgery in Jan 2004. Her scar is barely visable as it was made under her armpit area and goes just above it a towards the back a tiny bit. She will sometimes complain that it is really "itchy."

Re: Another scar question
My son has had 2 surgeries and he has never complained about the scars. He has a lot of pain due to his particular injury, so I think that may have something to do with it. He has a very high pain tolerance.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".

Dear BPI Family,
It has been stated on a number of posts on the Adult Board that OBPI's[that's me too]have a high threshold for pain...in fact a number of us adults who have lived into our 40's,50's& 60's thinking we were the only ones with this birth injury, just thought the pain was normal and ignored it because nobody else talked about our BPI's.
Hugs all around,
Carolyn J
LOBPI,age 67 & proud of it!
