I can't wait to meet everyone at the camp! It is only three weeks away...my family is so excited to meet other familes with BPI. My son is particularly curious. It will be great to finally put faces to names that I have been reading about.
I know this one is different from past camps, but how do the kids respond in general to other kids? Is there a sort of show and tell going on between them? I think I am as nervous as I am excited to see JR meet new friends who understand his issues!
Is anyone else nervous? Excited? Is this going to be your first camp?
What were the past camp experiences like for you all?
Sorry for the many questions....

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Re: Camp excitement
I met my first two obpi friends about 5 years ago along with a few tbpi folks...
I found it amazing I met NancyB and Judy T. It was the first time for all of us to meet another adult with this birth injury.
It was a great experience and in some ways healing. I finally found someone who gets it!
When I say something they immediately understand.
I have made so many friends since.
I was amazed that the kids compare their arms the way we did and still do sometimes.
I am sure you and your family will find this a great experience.
I was at the last camp and thought I was just there to work for UBPN and instead had a great time, learned more about my injury.
It was a great education for my husband too!
Can't wait to meet everyone

Hey first time camper!! I wish we could be there but we can't due to soccer tournaments. Brittney and I went to Baltimore and she met other kids with injuries and it was pretty incredible!! I'll never forget both Brittney and Brittany trying to eat with their injured arms - just to see if they could and having fun and laughing when we all ate together - while UNDERSTANDING eachother because they live it..... "Hey you are pretty good with your arm".... There was definately a bond - other kids and families that understood... - and Keith - what a cutie! - and then there was Richard who loved computers and so does my daughter - all just normal kids with something in commen and I'm sure that will be what you will experience at camp!!! Lots of friendliness and people and kids who do understand and that also have to deal with their injuries. I sure wish that we could be there - I'd love to meet y'all... I know in my heart that it will be amazing and something that you will never forget!! My Brittney still talks about the kids that she has met - there was a connection and they had fun!:) I hope that you have a great time - I know that you will!

This is our firt time to camp too. We have never seen other children with brachial plexus injuries in our city. My son is 2 years old with Left brachial plexus injury. We can't wait to go to camp. I've been getting nervous cause I know the date is getting closer. I hope to make new friends. I sure can use the support.
See you at Camp
