shoulder dystocia handled correctly on tape???

Post by admin »

This is probably a farfetched question, but has anyone out there seen a video either on t.v., a OB training video, etc. that shows a case of shoulder dystocia being handled correctly with proper manuvers and no injuries (the way it should be). I heard there was a a delivery like this several months ago on the maternity ward show on t.v. You know your life has really changed when all you really wanted for xmas was a copy of this darn tape, just to see what should've happened in the delivery room. My husband contacted them but since we didn't have an exact date or hospital location they were unable to locate the show to tell us when it will air again and they don't sell videotapes. I really doubt anyone has any ideas on this or knows where I might find a video, but if you do PLEASE let me know. Thanks.

A few years ago Robert Allen at Johns Hopkins put together a training video for doctors in medical school showing how to correctly handle a shoulder dystocia situation. It is in a digitalized format, and he had used my birth video to produce this tape. It is very, very short. I believe I still have his email address/phone no. if you would like to contact him. Hope this helps........

My attorney has some video done by a doctor as an expert in our case, that shows what should be done. I'll try to get a copy from him if it is possible. It may not be in his possession, but the doctors. I'll find out. You can e-mail me. browning93@netzero.net LeeAnne

We have all three of our childrens birth on video although you can't actually see the drs. hands in the first or third deliveries. Anyway...all three were shoulder dystocia births with the first 2 resulting in broken collar bones and the third unfortunately a bpi. It is interesting to see in the 2nd delivery in particular the mcroberts manuever done...(my breast bone is still bent from that delivery! :o)...I'd take that over my baby being injured anyday of course!) and then to see what was not done for the 3rd...and that dr. was trained under James O'Leary believe it or not! It's just amazing.

As Wendy said, there are videos out there that show a proper shoulder dystocia delivery. Someone at the second EPIRG camp they had in Texas had one and I've seen one since then as well. Dr. Robert Allan would be the one to contact!

Our attorney had a video that I believe was put out by the Amercian BOard of Obstertrics and Gynecolgy. We watched the video that showed several births where shoulder dystocia was diagnosed. It showed the protocol that Os should follow (i.e. stop the mother from pushing, McRoberts manuever, episitomy, etc.) Very interesting video to watch!
