I was wondering if any 1 else had the same thing and how long it took them to recover? How long did it take to build back the bulk muscle mass in the shoulder.. my shoulder is just skin and bone.. last question how much recover did u get.. even thou i can curl my arm its very week in therapy today i curled a 1 pound weight.. but 3 weeks ago i couldn'thold the weight of my arm up..

Re: c5 c6 stretch
Your recovery sounds really fast compared to the stretch injuries I have read about, so keep up the good work! I don't think there is a standard amount of time things take to get back to normal, it depends on the injury in each case. Yours must be fairly mild. Let us know how things progress, positive stories are always welcome.

Re: c5 c6 stretch
I dunno if my case is mild or not... My accident was mid novemember... and mid dec..... I had my first emg... and the results where pretty bad.. it should no activity in my bicep...deltoids.. infraspinatus.. and c5 c6 pure root avulsion was suggested bye my doc.. ya he really scared me.. than mid januaury I had a myleogram.. that should i'll my nerves where still incontact with my spine..but my crappy doc still gave me bad news.. he said that the damage he saw done to the c5 was really bad and thought it couldn't heal its self..So I started seeing a bp doc in boston... and over the last 3 weeks my progress has been good i'm pleased with it.. seems like every few days now i see a little inprovment

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.
Re: c5 c6 stretch
emg results are not 100% accurate, the only way to really diagnose the extent of injury is to take a look inside.
The recovery you have had in a relatively short time probably means your injury is mild-it's vital to keep up PT and stretching of joints to enable you to take full advantage of any recovery you do get.
Let us know how you progress :0)

Re: c5 c6 stretch
They told me I had a c5 c6 stretch as well. It's been just over 4 years. It took a year or two for me to start regaing strenth in my bicep. I still don't have any strenth in my deltoid. My shoulder has regained some meat, but is still much smaller than my good shoulder. I did have surgery 6 months after my injury. I hadn't had much recovery by then and since I've had much more. Keep at the therapy. I try and go to the gym 5 days a week to keep my shoulder working. Good luck.

Hi dennis, Could tell me exactly what they did for you with your surgery? I would be interested as I may be in the same boat. Thanks, Mark
