Hi All......As I stated in my introduction post...I haven't received any treatment since a very young age. I haven't even had a regular physician in years, much less a specialist who knows something about BPIs. It has been about 9 years since I have even had anyone look at it, and from what I am reading they have made a lot of progress in the field since I have been to therapy or anything of that nature. Does anyone have any thoughts on me going to a doctor of some sort??? I of course have trouble with my arm and my elbow seems to be extending less and less. So, in everyones opinion should I be seeing someone?? Just for a more up to date diagnosis or even attending some form of therapy??? Any ideas???
~Whitney~
Thanks in advance everyone

Re: Continued Treatment
Whitney,
You might want to have a brace made to straighten your elbow. It is not the most comfortable thing to sleep with but it sure made my arm a lot straighter and longer appearing. I can email you a picture of myself wearing the brace I am talking about if you want.
What kind of use do you have in you arm and hand? How high can you reach? if you want that picture send me a quick email and I will get back to you, my email is hope16_05@hotmail.com or if you ever want to chat feel free to ask me any thing, I am very open about my bpi.
Hugs,
Amy

Re: Continued Treatment
Hi Whitney, I am Angela. I am the mother of Jill born severe Left OBPI. My Jill has never had any surgery. Like you, I also there is so much more being done now.
There is a directory here of doctors and therapists. Click on Resources at the top of this page and it you will find it.
Some adults do have surgery later, and I am sure you will hear from them. There are some doctors from Florida (again look in Rescources/medical directory). Some go to Dr. Nath, Texas. Some go to Mayo Clinic, MN. Probably other places/doctors as well.
Sometimes, Dr. Nath comes to the different STATES, and will check you at a local Clinic of meeting place. My Daughter saw Dr. Nath, at the Chicago BPI annual picnic,in August, two years ago. There is a BPI EVENT BOARD, listed when you first pop into MESSAGE BOARDS.
Also, I am not sure if anyone told you yet that you can request the OUTREACH magazine from Nancy. Upon request she will also send you back issues.
Glad you found us. I only post over the last 3 summers. My daughter & I did sooooo much therapy etc, that she is not to concerned with this aspect of her life right now. And that is fine with me too.

Re: Continued Treatment
I forgot to say Jill is age 21.
Re: Continued Treatment
Hi there, left BPI, 38 years old. I had the Mod quad in January and wished I had it a million years earlier. I went to Dr. Nath in Houston -I say better to do something now than later. Call if you like (503) 880-4682. Do not go to an Orthopedic surgeon or listen to anyone without full knowledge of BPI therapies and surgeries - I have been told "well, but you have compensated now so why bother doing anything about it" and "Don't go looking for the Holy Grail, there is nothing that can be done". Shmucks!! Suzy B
