Hi Everyone

Post by Whitney28791 »

Hello Everyone...My name is Whitney and I am a 19 year old female and I have erbs palsy of the left arm. I received the injury at birth, and I have been doing a lot of research online lately. I haven't received any sort of physical therapy or treatment since a very young age, mostly by my own choice. But now that I older I have decided that my injury has of course affected me in alot of ways, and I am just here for support. I have never met or spoken to anyone with Erbs Palsy or a BPI so I thought it would be interesting to get in contact with you guys.....I just thought that I should introduce myself before I just started posting...Thanks a lot and I hope I have something interesting to add to the board. :).

Whitney:

Welcome to the boards. I found this site a few years ago and met the first person with a BPI 2 years ago at Camp 2003. Her name is Kathleen and I'm sure that she'll be posting also.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. You are all very welcoming. Amy, I am from Central Florida, the Orlando area although I grew up in North Carolina. If you ever want to chat you can e-mail me. I of course wouldn't mind talking to someone who understands :).

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Welcome to the Boards. I am sure you are amazed to find out so many people have the same injury. I know I was and I found UBPN almost 6 years ago. Before I found UBPN I thought I was the only one with a rare birth injury... now I know it's not rare and there are tons of folks just like me to share information and support with.

I'm glad you found UBPN and introduced yourself! Welcome . I don't know where you live, but if it's possible for you to come to the UBPN Camp in Sept. in D.C/Chevy Cahse MD, please try to! It would be great to meet you in person.

Welcome Whitney!
I'm sure you will get a lot of help and advice from the message boards. I discovered it in January, and now check it almost daily. It's wonderful to know that there are others dealing with this injury, and they are willing to offer their experiences and suggestions.
