EMG and Triangle Tilt

Post by admin »

Do they do EMG's with every child before this surgery? I know that they do one during the surgery itself, to make sure the nerves aren't damaged or whatever during the surgery, but we aren't scheduled to have an emg before the surgery and I read that someone else's child is. Should I be scheduling one?

I haven't heard of EMGs being associated with the triangle tilt (either before or during)?

The protocol that Jareds mom posted is for Triangle Tilt surgery only and it's done on a case by case basis. Not all children will have every test or any test.

Hi,

Alyssa did not have the EMG or the Botox with the Triangle Tilt - only the MRI which I do believe is standard for this surgery. It all depends on the child and the severity of the injury.

These are the kind of questions that people s/b addressing to the dr. It does seem that the EMG/Botox/MRI procedure is what they're doing w/the TT now from what I read on Dr. Nath's site, but I wouldn't necessarily call it routine. I've learned that pretty much nothing is routine when it comes to managing BPIs and, in particular, with Dr. Nath. He's well aware that every injury is unique and manages them individually. Here's a quote from the previously mentioned link: "Under some circumstances, all or some of these modalities may not be done on a particular patient." Plus, some of this will be up to the patient. I know that if the TT was recommended for Nicole, I'd leave the botox out of the mix (which would mean we wouldn't need the EMG since that's why it's done based on Dr. Nath's site). I think that while Dr. Nath might recommend something, he'd also respect the patient's choices. Anyway, it's best to contact the doctor individually to see what he recommends for your child.

Kara, please don't keep your mouth shut. I hope I didn't offend you. Mainly why I posted is b/c the person asking the question was "guest" as you know so I had no idea who was posting and I think that sometimes people come here looking for medical advice that s/b directed to the doctor. I mainly wanted to get the point across to the original poster that they should contact the dr. specifically about this issue. The link you posted is great and the info. is very helpful esp. in helping a parent to come up with some pre-op questions for the dr. I apologize if I upset you.

Our 2 1/2 year old just had the triangle tilt done on June 30th and we did receive a phone call a few days prior to leaving scheduling her for an EMG. Since our airline plans were already set they were unable to get us in so an EMG was not done. She was set for an MRI the day we arrived but the machine was down and she did not have that done either. It is different for every chid - just ask Dr. Nath if you have any concerns. Best of luck!
