TRIANGEL TILT CAST OFF?

Post by HAILEYSMOM »

My daughter will be taking her cast off in a few weeks how (sore/muscle lacking/smaller) was your child's arm from being in the cast? How long did it take for the strength to come back? I know each child is different but I am just curios about anyone else's experience. Thanks so much.

my son came out of his splint 8 weeks ago, he was very stiff and was afraid to use it, but within a few days he was moving it around lifting it to his mouth and feeding himself with that hand again,
the winging is still there but not as pronounced as before, and now he is sleeping without the splint and is sleeping wonderfully, comfortably and happily once again.
he is getting some strength back, but its a long, slow but well worth, process
good luck with your daughter!

When we took James' splint off, we had him sit with a hot compress(heating pad) on high for about 1 hour, after the hour, my father held the arm in place while I took of the straps and we slipped the arm our of the splint. James then tried to straighten his arm but had difficulties, and was crying. I called Dr Nath immediately to make sure I wasnt doing anything wrong, and Dr Nath suggested that we place James in a hot bath and let him soak the arm in the bath for as long as he could tolerate it, we did that. DR Nath also suggested that we keep James in and out of the splint for short periods of time (2 to 4hrs) at a time for the next 72 hrs. Then he suggested bathing James for as long as he would tolerate it everyday to loosen the muscles and to relax him. We followed Dr Nath's instructions fully and by the end of the 3rd day, James was moving the arm easier and without the major stiffness that he originally had.
Each day gets better as time went on,
Good luck with Alyssa's removal.

About the splint removal, we took both of Nicole's big post-op splints off in the heated therapy pool. We slowly let her arm down with the water. I also gave her some meds beforehand (Tylenol or Motrin?) just in case. She didn't have the Triangle Tilt though. The splints I'm referring to were for the Mod Quad and Capsulodesis.
