Triangle Tilt/Hermann

Post by kathy912curves »

Hi. My daughter Emma is having the triangle tilt surgery with Dr. Nath at the end of this month. Her first two surgeries she was 15 months and three. She is now almost 6. Do anyone have any advice as to how to prepare a 6 year old for this. We never had to explain anything before because she was too young. Also, how is Hermann hopsital? I cancelled our hotel room for the night of surgery so my husband and I can both stay with her. Will Hermann's rooms accomodate that? Also, does anyone have a good limo service they would recommend? Thanks soo much.

Contact Brenda and ask if they have something at Hermann to prepare her for the surgery (like a patient tour or something) and all the other questions you have.
My Emma hasn't been to Texas since a year ago in Dec., so I don't have any of those answers, but maybe someone else will.

All the best!

Kathy,

here is a link that I like for preparing a child for surgery - it has a list of books, etc.

here is a link to show you a play set that we bought for our daughter to prepare her for surgery

it went over really well - I played with her so that I could explain everything.

here is a link to hermann hospital info:

best of luck with the surgery, we have it planned for the fall and our daughters are the same age

Here's a link to Francine's site that has some replies to a similar question once posted on this board a long time ago. I'm so glad that she saved it. It was a good thread to hold onto. Hope this helps. ~Tina

my son had the surgery on March 3, he is 6 as well, the drs explained everything to us on the procedures especially for anestesia, then the anestesiology dept sent someone in to the room to explain in children's terms to James what was going to happen with being "interbated" and then hooked to IV's and monitors, they were very kid friendly and my son wasnt anxious, they even let him play nintendo all the way until he go to the OR. We loved Hermann, they were very hospitable and accomodating,
The room is small but does have 2 places to sleep, I slept on the small couch but they have a chair that pulls out into a twin size bed, I dont know how comfortable that is, though, Good luck, when are you having the surgery, if you want to email me with more questions please do,

just bringing this to the top, Kathy, jaredsmom and Elisabeth, just wondering how all of your children are doing since having the triangle tilt. Are they out of the splint. Do you see improvements? How about the children, do they notice improvements?

Kathy
Frankie and I were there in Nov the rooms at Herman are private they have a reclining chair that lay's down flat to sleep one and a bench along the window that sleeps one I moved from one to the other both were hard to sleep on. We were picked up from the airport and brought back to airport by Legacy town cars his name is Eddie just a great man so helpful his number is 713-679-0010 or 281-935-4787 legacy.limo@hotmail.com the price was the same as a cab but the service was excellent. For rides for testing and to and from hospital the hotels offer free shuttle service door to door. What hotel are you staying at???? mare
