Son's Brachial Plexus injury

My 5 year old son recieved a brachial plexus injury at birth. He has been diagnosed with Erb's Palsy.

he has had one tendon transfer surgery at the age of 2, that did seem to help a little. He is now scheduled for another tendon transfer surgery at Shriners Hospital in Minnesota. If anyone has info. on whether or not this is a good idea please let us know. Any and all info. would be greatly appreciated.

hi im twelve almost therteen i have a right opbi one bit of advise i can give you is never make him go to puplic school i personally have had my worst expeirences at school because kids seem as though they cant befriend any one who is different. in the past ive had other kids threaten me with things like im going to rip your arm off and beat you to death i have come home from school many times and just cryed because it seemed as though the whole world (school) was against me i belive that it has change me in many ways i dont belive it was or is worth it i know this has nothing to do whith the surgery but i just felt as though i should say something

We have a woman who frequents this board - her name is Missy and she can tell you all about her experiences at this Shriners - actually she is there now! If you look down the list of posts you will see a post from missy - maybe her email is attached there? I'd give her a holler. They had very good results from this particular surgeon at Shriner's.

Jameson - we are now thinking about schools for Maia who is going to be 4 soon. Do you go to private school now? We are very worried about the public school system, too. Thanks so much for sharing this with us!

i still go to public school but im fighting to get out, it all seems as though its just worthless pain and surfering. if i had a child whith opbi i wouldnt send him to school as a matter of fact i personally wouldnt send a kid to public school that didnt have an injury. the public school systems now days are full of violence and drugs. noy a day goes by at school whith out me bieng teased or threatened. it isnt so bad when your in k-2 but after then is when the torchure starts not only from other children but that adult at the school that cant seem to stop staring at you.
its all just a mess that insnt fair or right

Jameson I'm really sorry to hear this. I hope that you are able to transfer out to something more tolerable for you or I hope that if you stay there, as you get older things get better. I'm really sorry you are going through such a tough time.

Just wondering-why would teasing be any less in a private school? Both mine are at a private school, it's very good but teasing and bullying still goes on, kids are kids. Maybe homeschooling would be better for sensitive children, or would that make them feel even more 'different'? Jameson, would you rather have stayed home or do you think dealing with this stuff makes you stronger?
