That's great! I think it's so wonderful that Elizabeth is being so proactive at a young age. I'll bet that Nancy could outfit Elizabeth with extra copies of outreach for this endeavor; if Nancy is too busy, I'll be happy to send the extras I have (although I don't have a lot, but at least she could have 4 or 5 different issues.

This is so wonderful. What a great science fair project. If Peggy doesn't have all the issue I could fill in what she doesn't have. It is wonderful to see how much our children grow each year as they take on more and more.

As I look back on my youth, I realize that I had no real understanding of my injury other than it was a "birth injury" as my parents described it to me. I first saw the term "brachial plexus injury" in a letter to the draft board from my doctor and I still didn't know what that meant entirely.
So I think Elizabeth's project can only help her to understand her injury better and come to grips with it. It will also help her friends and teachers to understand BPI and hopefully give them a sense of respect for her injury.
Please keep us informed of her progress and results.

Louise that is awesome...it is great that she wants to find the information for the project on her own. My daughter who is in eighth grade is doing the same thing except she is not BPI her little brother is. She is a little upset that they won't let her use names though, she tole her science teacher she is proud of her brother and what he has accomplished. Elizabeth will get a great grade I am sure.

How interesting...my fifth grade daughter just did the same thing! Her school had a science fair and her display (which was for a school grade) was on the brachial plexus and her life with Erb's Palsy. Although she has always described her injury to her class in the beginning of each school year since third grade, this was her first official "coming out" to the whole school. There were always crowds of people around her display and people with lots of questions. She felt so good about it, and what a great awareness tool. I was so proud of her!

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

I am so glad that Miss Elizabeth is going public and spreading Awareness. I really thought I was alone with this birth injury and had no real information except that is was a birth injury and rare. 1999 was the very first time I read the words Brachial Plexus connected to my birth injury.
I can't wait to hear how she makes out.
