Hi,
I am a mother to a young lady with LOBPI that is starting to go thru puberty and her chest is developing. She is noticing that the breast on the BPI side is smaller than the other.(not Much) I have tried to assure her that this can be quite natural as she develops. I myself am off just a lil bit.
I was just wondering if any of the women with BPI have any suggestions or Ideas on how to help her thru this? Is this an area of concern with BPI women? Could this be because of smaller pec muscles? This injury causes so different issues.....and her self esteem has been exceptional until now. Puberty is hard enough on these young girls.........only thing harder I know of is Menopause(LOL)
Any help would be wonderfully appreciated!!!
THank you.

Re: body development
I am 24, ughh well 25 now, and TBPI so I am sure that it is a slight bit different. my boobs were NEVER the same size. Now it has been 4 years since my accident when I got the BPI and my BPI side boob is much nicer, a bit smaller but like xiggers it is perky. I think mine is to te tightening up of my pec muscles on that side. Maybe your daughter never really developed those muscles, Im not sure just trying to think of why in regards to the opposite of mine. You can tell her that mine have always been difference even when I wasnt BPI.

Re: body development
Well - Mine aren't the same size - but I have no injury. I know TMI (too much information). My daughter - who's in puberty now - I was worried for a while because of the growth of one and not the other - so we went to see her pediatrician because of both of our concerns (maybe she didn't want to look like her MOM! LOL) and we were told it is very common for growth to come in differently, and I think it relieved BOTH of us to hear it from her pediatrician. Anyway - she has evened out over the past year and a half and everything looks very normal on both sides - and now she is just growing - slowly - very slowly - ...... compared to some girls in her class who have ME beat by far...........
Court - glad to hear yours is perky! I thought I gave too much info!:) LOL You cracked me up with that one!

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Re: body development
I am obpi and it was not a big deal for me but the obpi side was always smaller and my OB/gyn always made a comment about it. Last visit I said it was due to OBPI and the lack of pec muscle... My rib cage is smaller on the right side if it is measured mid line to spine and it always has been. My ankle is thinner on the affected side... ankle chains are looser on right side.
I think at times it was almost a cup size a vs b cup... but really not that big a deal. Many people have one hand larger or foot...

Kath! When you said "ankle chains' I had a visual! LOL - chains around your ankles while you were holding your grandkids and walking around!! LOL I'm glad that they are looser on your right side!:) I guess I sometimes take things too 'literally'!

LOL...LOL...LOL.... No they just like to hang on my legs... and lounge on me as if I am a chair... LOL... If they could I think they would keep me chained close by. They think we should live with them...
I have a big problem -- I am a very visual person... so the minute someone describes something to me it is written all over my face.
If someone tells me a story I get the full picture! There are a few people who were at camp two years ago that really picked up on my facial expressions... LOL
I guess we share the same humor and your not even OBPI... LOL...
PS... I am talking about gold chains... ankle bracelets...

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".

Re: body development
Hello All....."my 2 cents"on this topic is that everything on my LOBPI side is shorter and or smaller, skinnier that my right side. My poor right sided limbs and muscles are way overused and need a long rest. That's my story for flopping on the couch and I stick to it!!..LOL
