Hey Kate, actually I did kind of think about writing this stuff down that she says - funny you'd say that! I guess we just LAUGH so much in our family to try and keep sane and she has some good ones. There was the time she was trying to do cartwheels with her neighbor friends and she was the only one who couldn't quite do it and they kept urging her on "saying, "Britt - just put your arms down and go!" She was a mess - and kept flopping her body - thought she was going to killl herself trying and then and I remember hearing her reply, "Duh!!! of course You can do it - your arms are the same length!!" Then she laughed as usual and kept on trying.
I am glad that you started this post - I have laughed so hard at so many replies because there is a connection that nobody else can really get - except those who live it - it's a bond that we all share. Thank you to all that have added their funny times and thoughts.
Thanks,
Christy

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".

Hi all,
My 2 cents: I am 66,LOBPI. I lived in ignorance ,embarrassment & shame until in my 30's. Without Black Humor that I developed & got very good at, I'd not be here, I am now sure.
HURRAY for laughing together WITH your children. Watch out for me at Camp 2005!!
Hugs to you all~Carolyn J

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH...Righty isn't a team player!! That is pure genius, I am actually in tears over that. I also have to say congrats for the original poster. I seldom post how I truly feel, because I always think that I will get lynched for my opinion.

Well - tonight - Britney cracked me up again! We were trying to clean up the table after supper and we both started acting goofey. She came after me - swinging her injured arm - saying, " I have a BPI injury and I'm not afraid to USE it!!!" She kept bopping me with her injured arm so I tackled her! LOL!!! We tease eachother alot! She is doing just fine - and talking and being able to laugh and joke helps us both! We joke so much in our family. I even caught up to her while we were doing laps around the kitchen island in the 'big chase' of her bopping me and me trying to tackle her - yes we sound insane but we all have fun and it's OK to laugh!

Hey it's Brittney! I just wanted to let everybody know that I'm not as phsycho as my mom makes me seem. My mom didn't want me to read what she was writing so I went to the website and read it myself! HA! I noticed that she posts a whole lot too. All the stuff she said did happen but I never knew she TOLD people about all the insane things I do! What the heck? Now at least I know what she's been saying about me. I'm the one with the injury I should be able to look at the website right? It's getting late and I need to finsih my homework!
P.S. I noticed that some people thought the black humor would offend children with injuries. Well I'm a child with an injury and I think it's hilarious!

Hey Brittney! I'm glad to see you here! I've really enjoyed your mom's stories... hopefully now you'll post your own! You have been so inspiring to me... I hope Joshua grows up to be as strong, cheerful and witty as you are.
Now go do some homework before your head swells up and falls off

Hey Kate! She's banned from the computer room today! LOL We have two computers in here and she kept trying to see what I was typing on mine and she was 'supposed' to be doing her homework on the other one - then I heard her giggling on her computer and she said, "Well I just posted!" She's 13 now - and too bold (but very sweet...)

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

I saw that post early this morning and was rolling on the floor... Hang on to your sense of humor... I don't think I would have survived my kids teen years without it!
Brittney welcome to the message boards. Too bad you can't read all the things your Mom said when you were little... LOL...

OH MY GOD!!! I THOUGHT MY FAMILY WAS THE ONLY ONE TO DO THIS. OF COURSE THE MOST COMMON ONE IS "NEMO", BUT AFTER MY SON HAD HIS SURGERY WITH NERVE GRAFTS IN FLORIDA LAST MONTH, WE WERE RETURNING TO VA AND PEOPLE IN THE AIRPORT WERE STARING AT JAVIER WITH HIS NECKBRACE AND CAST AND LEG BANDAGES. WE GOT SOME REALLY DIRTY LOOKS, I GUESS PEOPLE THOUGHT WE DID THAT TO HIM. WELL, HOTHEAD ME, TOLD ONE LADY THAT HE JUST WOULD NOT STOP CRYING DURING THAT LAST LAYOVER. HAHA
SHE JUST ABOUT PASSED OUT.
SHE JUST ABOUT PASSED OUT.
