Determining which nerves and muscles are affected
Re: Determining which nerves and muscles are affected
our pediatric nerves gave us an educated guess on what nerves of Blake's were effected and he was VERY accurate. that was just upon examination and was confirmed by Texas. do you have a good pediatric neurologist?

Re: Determining which nerves and muscles are affected
Karleen,
Our daughter had a MRI in Melbourne to try to determine which nerves had been damaged. However it seems that it is more by observation and patterns of movement that the experts determine which nerves have been damaged. When they do surgery they get the clearest picture. All the best with your daughter. I'm sure that good physiotherapy will help her use what she does have.

Dr. Pape just published a paper on Developmental Apraxia. You may want to contact them to get a copy of it (don't know which journal it is published in)

email them at info@tascnetwork.net
Also, Karleen, you might want to contact Leslie McKibben at lmpt@worldnet.att.net about TES - this is threshold electrical stimuluation that specifically deals with disuse muscle atrophy. Once you get Xiaoling's brain to know that these movements are possible the TES could probably really make a shift in the muscle atrophy. Talk to Leslie about it.
hope you are enjoying your little newcomer! want to share a picture with us?
