Sandy,
It sounds like you have been put through the ringer. Sorry that your'e getting the short end. But the fights not over yet, there are still a few rounds left. So go get em' tiger. Fight the good fight. May the wind be at your back, and all their lawers pansies...Karl...

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

I feel for you. Don't let them get you down you have come so far in such a short time. I know it is different but I am OBPI and once I could not work anymore I had to really fight to get SD... strange I have always been bpi and I was forced to prove I was disabled.
It is important that you stress all of the things you cannot do ( I hated to focus on that) it is necessary for the process. You also need to stress that the possiblity of overuse of the unaffected arm is a real possibility you could damage the arm you use for active daily life functions.
Keep your chin up

Sandi,
I'm so sorry that you're having such a horrible time. Wouldn't it be great if other people without this injury could understand what it's all about?
I've also been dealing with a crush injury for 4 years this March 24th. It can be very trying, and I certainly feel for you.
Just hang in there and try to stay positive. Know your limits and what can aggravate your condition.
All the best,
Gillian

Before they break it off in you get a lawyer. Mine told me to keep going to therapy, keep going to the Drs and keep up the meds or you will be viewed as ''cured''. Your rehab can help with the pain as well as catching any one of the many SLOW gains you might be making. Get some professional advice and keep on keeping on.It's a longer trip than "they" want to admit. Red

Sandi,
no matter what the exterior is or says, it's what you feel and believe inside. Look to the positive and find something that gives you happiness and hope.
Bring enrichment to your life and to others.
Hang in there!

Re: Feeling depressed
Thank you all for your responses,Im so happy I found this forum. One week left of PT and am I getting more depressed.I do have a lawyer who has been giving me great advice. What is really scarey is my doctors WC-16 report as the final rating report. He is not a people person, never takes the time to listen to my concerns, etc. The lawyer told me alot about my "medical"future is basically in his hands.I wish I could just stop worrying so much.

Don't give up PT! It kept me sane, and as another poster said-the other side might take it as a sign you have no further problems.
Hope you feel better soon, people out here do care.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.
Re: Feeling depressed
Hi Sandi
Sorry you're feeling like this, it was a long time ago for me but I can remember that bleak "so, this is it?" feeling. But......firstly, I got recovery in my biceps well after the period the experts said is usual, not that biceps alone is actually much good to me but at least it showed me that doctors tend to generalise, and all these injuries are different. I hope your recovery continues and I think you should continue PT to enhance any recovery that may already have happened and isn't yet showing. Does that make sense?
Secondly, I noticed that I was more depressed until the compensation case had been settled. One bpi doctor has written that he sometimes sees a holdup in recovery in people with cases still pending-may be coincidence and would be impossible to prove scientifically but an interesting point.
Let us know how things are going.
