Hey all, how is everyone doing? I have two quick questions. I'm going to Mayo Clinic on the 23rd of this month and I'm currently not taking ANY medications for my pain, though I do have pain, I'm learning to tolerate it. My first question is, I hate getting the EMGs done so I was wondering if I could take any pain-relieving drug like Naproxen to lessen the process for me. Does taking the pain meds affect with the results of the tests? My second question is what do I need to do to be prepared for my first consultation? I'm very nervous but at the same time, anxious...
Thanks for all your help!
Kim.

Kim,
I don't know if the meds effect the emg test results. I've been on neurontin since day one. My doctors have never said anything about not taking any meds before seeing them. But from everything I've heard and read, you are MUCH better off never even beginning the meds in the first place. From what I've read recently the meds help to perpetuate the chronic pain cycle. And in order to break that cycle, part of the process is getting off the meds. So it seems that you are doing the right thing. Now, if only I was doing the right thing. Good luck with your test...Karl...
PS..I found out the hard way that too much Aleave will make your stomach bleed.

Hi! Yes, I'm will be going to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. This will be my first time. Do they normally do the surgery in a couple of days or weeks after the first visit? I'm afraid because I'm passing my 6 months mark this March 16th...
I'm also thinking about taking some narcotics like percocet just so I'm in less pain. Any inputs?
Thanks!!

Hi,
Few questions for you first.Do you have feeling in your arm/can you move the arm at all? I imagine you will be seeing Dr Spinner later that day after the EMG is done.Besides Dr.Spinner, their will be other doctors popping in and out of your room checking you out, giving their opinions, etc.Thats what is so great about that place, they all put their input in.If you want you can email me personily, if you need more Mayo questions answered.
