Hi all,
Thanks for all your help with the mitten thing, we've really had a time with them, can't wait to investigate the new options.
We had an appt @ Metro hosp in Cleveland. They have just recently started seeing kids with bpi. Dr. Hoyen was really nice, and said the same thing Drs in houston said. We are contemplating a tendon transfer surgery for James. We need to get an MRI and shoulder x-ray first, then we will decide. If any of you have had a tendon transfer, can you let us know about your experience? We may do it soon, like spring break.
Thanks again,
Tammie Knapp

Re: Metro Health Hosp in Cleveland
We had this secondary surgery done on my son. We travelled to TX for the surgery. We have seen incredible results. He does things with his BPI arm that we never thought possible. Dr. Nath classifies him as a severe case of BPI and we didn't expect to see major results, but we were wrong. This was my son's first surgery. He can now put his arm way above his head, behind his neck, touch his ear, mouth, top of his head, and he can supinate very well. He can also lift his arm out to the side and give us a big hug. I highly recommend the surgery if your doctor says it is necessary. It made such a difference in my son's function. The recovery time was also very easy for him. I wish you the best.

Guest,
At what age did your son have secondary surgery with Dr. Nath?
What were his limitations before surgery?

Guest,
I would love to hear some more about the tendon transfer surgery. Did your child lose any function after the tendon transfer? Is the internal rotatation or any other function weaker now or was it initially? What type of therapy did you have to do after surgery?
Thanks,
Sema
