Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Happy 18th Amy& 13 Brit

Post by Kath »

I just noticed on the General Message board that today two young posters reach big milestones.

Brittney is 13 and Amy turns 18... I hope both girls enjoyed their day.

Thanks Kath! I still can't believe Brittney is 13 today! Wow! Happy Birthday Amy!!! I hope you had a fun one too!

Brittney is a funny kid - so excited about being an official teenager. She has gotten so tall - about the same height as me now and we look so much alike. Her b-day was good - PECAN pie instead of cake! For her party sleepover we will order a chocolate cake - she wanted it ordered instead of me baking it - family funny - just like she wanted ordered in Chinese food tonight instead of my cooking! - OK - I try but I am not too good in the kitchen and maybe that's why my kids are on the skinny side!!!! I got her a new watch to set for her 'beeping' for certain times of day - she cracks me up with her schedules.... She got some new earrings and clothes and stuff and her main present is her and I going on a shopping spree!! Chip wants to set a limited amount - probably a good idea! Anyway - after her soccer tournament this weekend we are heading to the mall to have fun!
Thanks for remembering her birthday!

Nancy - we must have been typing at the same time - by the time I posted I saw your reply. Thanks for your b-day wishes to her. I think she misses your emails! She was really excited about being asked about her feelings - not too many people do.
Thanks for remembering her big 13! Yep she is a teenager - but probably one of the most sweetest and happiest. Thank you for your wishes and I will tell her that you sent them.

I have three kids and I enjoyed their teen years so much... I thought they were so funny - well, most of the time. All three were teenagers at one point that truly tested my sense of humor and I enjoyed all of those years.

Kath, I know what you're saying! Teenage years I was told were supposed to be awful for parents - well - it is a whole new phase for me and so much fun! We got our eye brows waxed together a few weeks ago! The bond we have shared since she was born keeps getting stronger - and now I have this teenager that I can watch scary movies with, talk more with, sing off key with... we are close and she is so funny with her "'Yo' Yo' I don't think so"... and that's when we wrestle.... - she's always teasing me or she's doing her 'flamingo dance' around the kitchen. We probably sound insane - but we have so much fun and I still can't get over that my little one is 13!

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.

My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!

I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".
