OK, one month out now for Mod Quad with Dr. Nath in Houston and here are my latest measurements:
Flexion pre surgery - arom = 45*, prom = 65*
Flexion 1 mo post - arom = 90*, prom = 162*
Abduction pre surgery - arom = 30*, prom = 40*
Abduction 1 mo post - arom = 73*, prom = 158*
External rotation pre surgery - arom = 30*, prom = 30*
External rotate 1 mo post - arom = 65*, prom = 85*
For those not familiar with these terms:
AROM = active range of motion - how far can you lift your arm on its own power
PROM - passive rom - how far can someone else lift your arm when relaxed - normally this is the same number as AROM
Flexion - lift your arm straight out in front of you and up. 180* is normal
Abduction - lift arm out to your side and up like a jumping jack. 180* is normal
External rotate - hold elbow at side, lift lower arm so it is 90* or parallel to the ground and swing lower arm away from your body - keep elbow at side. 90* is normal.
Think of the PROM as your potential so now I have gone form potentially raising my arm on flexion from 65* to 162*! It will take awhile, but I am sure I will get there. Hec, I am at 90* from 45* in one month! Thanks for all your support. Sorry if I bored you with the terminology lesson.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Suzy
You are doing amazing and I am so happy for you!
Thanks for the lesson we all really need to learn the terms and unless we are involved with PT /surgery many of us never understood them.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: LOBPI. I am 77 yrs old and never had a name for my injuries until 2004 when I found UBPN at age 66.
My injuries are: LOBPI on upper body and Cerebrael Palsy on the lower left extremities. The only intervention I've had is a tendon transplant from my left leg to my left foot to enable flexing t age 24 in 1962. Before that, my foot would freeze without notice on the side when wearing heels AND I always did wear them at work "to fit in" I also stuttered until around age 18-19...just outgrew it...no therapy for it. Also suffered from very very low self esteem; severe Depression and Anxiety attacks started at menopause. I stuffed emotions and over-compensated in every thing I did to "fit in" and be "invisible". My injuries were Never addressed or talked about until age 66. I am a late bloomer!!!!!
I welcome any and all questions about "My Journey".
There is NO SUCH THING AS A DUMB QUESTION.
