20/20 show

Post by Elisa »

Just wanted to let everyone know that the 20/20 segment on video taping births is scheduled to air this Friday, March 8th at 10pm EST. Roje said if there are any changes she will let us know (she's a very nice lady). I know many of us spoke to Roje and encouraged 20/20 to do a show on BPI's, which I think is soooo very important. Last I had heard, they were going to have a little addition of BPI tied into the main video taping show. I sure hope someday the injury can have its own segment, which it is more than deserving of.

Any ways, I have been away from this board for way too long. Things have just been so hectic. I sure miss all the important info, sharing and incredible support this board has to offer. I hope all your little ones are making continued progress and I hope to be back on soon. Also, just wanted to say "hi" to all the great people I met at camp in Colorado. I think of all of you and your precious children often!

Take Care,

Thanks for the info Elisa. I was wondering if you or anyone knows what kind of a message they are trying to get across out of this show. I am hesitant to tell all of my family members and friends to watch this segment in case 20/20 focuses mostly on "why doctor's/hospitals can be wrongfully accused of birth injuries" due to videos during birth, or the show somehow takes the doctor or hospital's view instead of how extremely beneficial a tape can be to an injured family. I just do not want to confuse my family and friends even more when I'm still not sure that they understand what happened to my daughter to begin with.
So far I've only found:
Coming up on 20/20:
Friday, March 8
• Arnold Diaz reports on why more and more hospitals are banning birth videos.
Thanks for any input,
Christy

Hi Christy

You bring up a good point and I have had the same concerns myself. I really am not certain, if I can find out I will let you know. The last thing we need is bad publicity and more inaccurate info. shared with the public. They are having 2 families with BPI's on it and I think they had planned to show some video footage, which usually speaks for itself pretty clearly regarding the injury, so I am guessing and hoping that the show will be a good thing. And chances are they will show the controversy of the pro's and con's of taping, but I think the BPI stuff may be positive (not certain).

Thanks Elisa. I guess I just have a fear of asking neighbors, friends, family and all to watch this and then the info be even more confusing or inaccurate - - a show like 20/20 could have so much influence on the way people view brachial plexus birth injuries. Right now I'm not sure if I'm going to ask others to watch it or not - but I won't miss it and I'll tape it. Thanks again for replying and for posting when the segment will air.

Christy - you are SO right! It is very scary when something comes up and you might be on a tv or a newspaper writer comes to do a story....you never know what they are going to say or write and you never get a chance to proof any of it or make comments!

When Maia got her bicycle from Telephone Pioneers a local newspaper writer came by and took notes...and then when it appeared in the paper it was all WRONG!! I wondered - was she really here taking notes or was it a holograph of her. Makes you wonder about all the other articles and shows.

I just did not think about that one... that perhaps it would be all wrong...

I e-mailed everyone I knew.... to watch... since they all know I am birth injured maybe they will learn that I do NOT have a birth defect but a birth injury.... and maybe we can get our family and friends to write and call 20/20 to do an entire show on this subject.

Just a positive thought I had... hope I am right....
