Long time no see, lol

Post by annedefiance »

Hi all :) It's been a long time I know, but life just kicks you in the butt sometimes. Things are going pretty good here. I'm still in school and that's taking up a lot of my time (should be studying for a test now, but I don't wanna, lol) but I'm enjoying it. Ben is doing great :) His gracilis transfer has been just fabulous, it's just been amazing the return we've seen from that. It was hard at the time, but I don't regret it in the least and I don't think Ben will when he's older. He just had an arthroscopic anterior release in that shoulder this past Thurs. and is casted (you can see the pics of his cast in my yahoo album http://photos.yahoo.com/annedefiance but fair warning, it's the one marked Ben's Cast, if you go to the other, it contains pictures from a "Ladies Night Out" I went to recently, hey, Mom's gotta relax every now and then, lol). He's being a little trooper, and is adjusting to his cast, after really hating it at first. Boy, I figured I'd have a lot to update ya'll on, but life around here is pretty much school and the basics :)

Your son looks like he is tolerating his cast well! Who is his surgeon? I'm also glad to hear he is benefiting from the gracillis transfer.

His surgeon for the anterior release was Dr. Charles Mehlman and for the Gracilis Dr. Kevin Yakuboff. They're both part of the Brachial Plexus team at Cincinnati Children's Hopsital here in Ohio.

Ben had an anterior release of the ligaments in his shoulder to help with his external rotation (moving the arm out to the side).

Lol, I live in a small town in Ohio, but those fellers are out of Toledo, and they are just generally nice guys. One of them and I spent a long time talking about our kids (kinda sad, huh? LOL) On the 25th there are some coming from Canada as kind of a last blast thing since the restaraunt (sp?) is going to be moving and won't have a club anymore :*( I'm friends with the owner, so I usually get a good table.
