I just want to report that I was in another delivery the other day that experienced shoulder dystocia (I am a labor and delivery nurse, along with being Amber's {ROBPI} Mom). I am very happy to say that the shoulder dystocia was easily dealt with by a very skilled midwife named Martha and myself and this 8lb 5.5oz. little girl was delivered uninjured and perfectly happy! I just am so happy at this outcome because each time I experience a shoulder dystocia delivery, or even just tight shoulders that could have been a dystocia, I experience flashbacks to Amber's delivery and how that midwife pulled and pulled and injured her! I'm happy to say the midwives I work with now are much better trained!

McRobert's Manuever with the mother's bottom lifted off of the bed was used successfully in this case. If that had not immediately alleviated the problem, then we would have turned her to her hands and knees and used the Gaskin Manuever.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Thanks for sharing this with us. All three of my daughters children were high risk due to size and thank God for a well educated doctor none were injured.
