I have been told I can it's possible to regain some elbow flexion thru the transfer. Anyone else had it done? How are you doing now? How was the recovery? How long were you in the hospital? Can I pretty much manage being home alone during the day?
I already have great grip & forearm but think that gaining anything would be great after all these years.
I appreciate any insight you good people might have.
?'s of Gracillis transfer & recovery
Re: ?'s of Gracillis transfer & recovery
Hi -
I didn't respond right away since seems you already know John's story. But yes, the first gracilis transfer has enabled him to have elbow flexion - starting six months out. He had more done than just that which I imagine affected length of hospital stay, but it was 2-3 ICU & probably 3 regular room.
Since you're an adult, I would think you could manage on your own during the day. Your arm will probably be immobolized the first four weeks - and showers can be a challenge, but "this too shall pass".
I know others have had gracilis transfers, so hope you get some other perspective than just mine.
Take care & keep us posted.

Thanks, Ellen. I really didn't think about the immobilization lasting that long. Or the hospital stay for that matter. I should have asked more questions at Mayo.
