My Mayo bp center visit

Post by Rocket Ray »

I went to Mayo Jan 27 and met with Dr. Bishop & Dr. Spinner, (Dr. Shin was out of the country).
They looked me over & my charts regarding my injury from 18 years ago. They told me that most of the nerves had stopped firing long ago, but a free muscle tranfer from my thigh is possible! While the up to down movement cannot be helped much more, elbow flexion can be gained. I was wondering if anybody else has had a free muscle transfer with a backup of the ulnar nerve to gain elbow flexion?
I plan to talk with my work and take advantage of these great surgeons!

Ray,

That's GREAT that Mayo can help you! We were there on the same day - wish I'd had a chance to meet you.

John has had the muscle transfers, although not using the ulnar nerve, & he's doing great.

When will you have surgery?

Ellen, Sorry I missed you! My girlfriend and I were there at 8:45 & seen right away. As to when to schedule the surgery, I have to discuss things with my boss as I will probably take a short term disability leave, and find out when they can afford my going for several weeks as well as when the Mayo can do it and make sure all is approved with insurance beforehand. I will also pattern it around when my girlfriend can get vacation time as well as we do not live together, (yet).
