Not BPI related...Needs some prayers...

Post by Nettie »

I do not participate much in the boards, just primarily lurk. But right now I am so very sad and need to share my grief. December 7th one of my bosses, who is my son's(6 year old with LOBPI) godmother lost her 4 month old granddaughter to SIDS. Amber was awake, crying, laid her head down and when her mother picked her up she was gone. She was at day care at the time. She was such a happy, healthy little baby. If that whole experience, funeral and all was not enough, today I found out that one of my employees was driving home last night, hit some black ice, went into a ditch, got out of her vehicle, was walking on the roadway and was struck by another vehicle and is brain dead. They are taking her off the ventilator as I write this. She is 30 years old with a 10 year old son, 6 year old son and little girl who turned two yesterday. She is one of my best employees. Never angry, sad, or acted troubled by anything. She had an absolutely contagious smile and laugh. Matter of fact after I heard that she was brain dead at work I picked up a piece of paper on my desk and it was a questionaire from a resident's family and they were complimenting Michelle on her care she provided their mother. Please pray for Michelle and her family. Thank you.

How awful! Our prayers are with these two families.
When something happens such as this, it makes me realize how very lucky we are to have our families.

Our prayers are with them!

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

Nettie,

Although you lurk here, I am so glad you posted when you felt the need to share and vent. Knowing what you and all these families are going through is just overwhelming. I just keep thinking of those children. Michelle and her family will be in my thoughts and prayers, as well as you.

Take Care,
Lisa

Thank you to all of you who offered your prayers and kind words for Michelle and her family. Michelle died peacefully with her family by her side at 10:00pm on Monday. It took them 6 hours to wean her off the ventilator because her heart was so strong, they wanted it to be comfortable for her. She is now in a better place. Michelle would not have wanted to live in a nursing home being taken care of by others and have her children watch her slowly die. I had the opportunity to speak to her Mom today and express my condolences and let her know how much Michelle touched all of our lives and the lives of those she cared for at our facility. What a privilege it was to know and work with Michelle. Each day gets a little better, but the sadness at work is almost overbearing. Lots of hugging and tears. She stopped at her sister's house on Saturday evening and said she was the happiest she had been in years. Her baby turned two on Sunday and was with her dad with the rest of her children and Michelle had not seen them since Friday when she dropped them off and was rushing to see them and wish Callie a Happy Birthday. Her brother is in Iraq and was home for Christmas and Michelle was able to spend lots of time with him and her entire family. Please continue to keep them in your prayers. Michelle is in a great place now and will no longer have to suffer on earth in any way and she will live on in our hearts forever. It is my hope that everyone will take a moment and reflect on your family and friends, love and cherish them, and hold them dear to your hearts. Michelle would want that. Thanks again.

With tears in my eyes, I've prayed for both families and all those who knew them and cared for them. It's hard to hear such a sad story and think how it will affect the children and loved ones. I wish you all the comfort you need in your time of sorrow.
