We are supposed to leave for TCH Sunday, but we woke up to a foot of snow and it is still snowing out there. Colleen also woke up coughing and has a temp of 100.4
I just took her to the doctor Thursday for a preop visit for medical clearance and she was perfectly fine. Ugh, I'm afraid we'll get to Texas and she'll be too sick for anesthesia.
What should I do? We've already bought the plane tickets...
Help!!!!
Leaving tomorrow?
Re: Leaving tomorrow?
ohmygosh Donna.... well there's no telling if she's going to get better or worse at this moment. Is it medical airfare? Can they be changed?
I'd call down to TCH and speak to the docs...since it's weekend maybe an anesthesiologist who's there over the weekend? maybe call the 'holding room' staff? They would know in there what's acceptable and what's not.
Can you take her to the doc today to see if she has congestion... because sinus congestion in an airplane is really bad...goes right into the ears with the pressure. Maybe if you go today - he can put her on an a fast acting antibiotic and she'd be ok for monday??
sorry to hear about all of this...
wow and I haven't even mentioned the snow..are the airports shut down?
I'm stressed out just thinking about all of this and I'm not even you!! (hope that made you smile!
big hugs - hope things work out one way or another,
hope she feels better, too,
God Bless,
francine

Re: Leaving tomorrow?
Thanks Francine,
Colleen's doctor put her on Zithromax, so we are still planning on going. Hopefully she will be ok by the time Monday rolls around. The only thing stopping us now is the snow. It's really coming down out there! Our flight isn't until tomorrow afternoon at 1:00pm chicago time so maybe it will be cleared up by then.
I'll let you know what happens one way or another.
Thanks I appreciate your response, Francine!

Re: Leaving tomorrow?
Make sure you keep that Zithromax at regular dosing time...it normally takes the 5 days to really show improvement in our experience and from what our Dr has told us as well as what I have seen in response in the hospital charts I work on. We no longer use it for her ear infections for that reason alone.
Many prayers for all to go well.

Re: Leaving tomorrow?
Hi Donna,
Don't kids just have the best timing? We are leaving for TCH at 6:45 am tomorrow and Emily is still on her antibotics from a double ear infection and cold last week. Yesterday I spoke with an O.R. nurse and an anesthesiologist and was told as long as her chest and respitory was clear, it's a go. They said they will not operate if any respitory or chest cold is happening. It might be worth a call to the anesthesiology department and see what they say. I really hopes everything works out for you. It's hard enough just taking our kids to surgery, much less having to deal with things like this. If you make it, please give us ring and let us know you are there. We are looking forward to meeting you and your family. Crossing my fingers for you.

Re: Leaving tomorrow?
Donna & Julie - there is another family that will be there. They were supposed to be there a few weeks ago but their son got sick. Remember I posted a post a while back about a woman who didn't have a computer- who wanted info on estim? Well Ruchel and her husband and their 2 year old Eli (pronounced Eh-lee not eeee-lie) will be having the capsulodesis. They don't know too many other families with kids who are injured so it would be really nice if they could meet up with some others. Eli will be having surgery Monday morning - they need to be there at 6:30 am.
I wish all of you a very safe trip and hope that the kids have successful and easy surgeries and fast recoveries.
big hugs to all of you,
francine

Re: Leaving tomorrow?
Thanx for the info on the family Francine. We are supposed to check in at 6:15, so I will look for them in the pre-op room.

Re: Leaving tomorrow?
Thank you all for your good wishes and prayers.
Francine, I will keep an eye out for the new family and try to meet up with them as well as Julie and her family.
Colleen's temp is 97.6 today (Hooray!) The snow has stopped and our flight is still supposed to be on time. Looks like thinkgs will work out after all.
Well, gotta go and finish some last minute packing!
God Bless,
Donna
