Lisa:
THIS IS GREAT!!! I am the one who originally posted and encouraged people to contact Dr. Phil, so when I read your story, I started yelling and whooping and literally jumped out of my chair with excitement! Can you imagine how many women of child-bearing age watch that show? Wow!
We are in litigation (like so many others), so I knew we couldn't write to him, so I was really praying that others would. I cannot WAIT to watch the episode, tape it and tell everyone I know to watch it, too!
THANK YOU, on behalf of those who can't yet tell our stories publicly, for being so courageous in going on national TV. That had to be daunting. But I salute you and give you all the credit in the world for being the one to take the news about the tragedy of BPI to a wider audience! We'll be tuning in!

You go girl!!! I am so very proud of you! It's hard to be so vulnerable by being "unmasked" on national t.v., especially when they don't hit the mark 100% about who you or your family is. But I know if it were me up on that stage the same exact thing would happen - powerful emotions would well up in me and I would feel the same way I did when I first learned that my baby was injured - scared, scared, scared, sad, sad, sad, and angry, angry, angry that my precious little baby was hurt. I am sure I"d be bawling buckets, even if I don't feel like I need to do that every day having someone take me back to the injury and the birth would definitely bring that out. Thank you for getting the words brachial plexus injury on t.v.! And, I bet another writer is dead-on -- I bet the majority of Dr. Phil's audience is women of child-bearing age. By the way, in the Philadelphia area it is on at 5:00, I think on CBS but it could be ABC (it's whichever channel Oprah's not on but it's definitely not on NBC). Okay, I watch too much t.v. to know all that!

Gosh Paula, I am sorry but I am not sure what channel. It just varies so check your local listing.
I just wanted to say THANK YOU all so very, very much. Your kind words and encouragement mean a lot to me. I just wish I had time to respond to each of you personally. Just know your support helps me get over my embarrassment and reminds me that I did this for all of us, even when I questioned what on earth have I gotten myself into? Would I have even written if I really thought I would have been selected?
I just hope you all don't think I am a horrible mom after the show. I am just glad that some of you know me and the type of person, and mom I am. This injury has messed with my mind and heart, but I still do have a head on my shoulders....I think!
Anyways, those tears rolling down my cheeks (which look 10 lbs. heavier on TV by the way...just what we all would want, right? seriously though, those tears are tears for each and every family and child out there. Looking into the audience at the very beginning I saw much pain and anguish on a woman's face who I had never seen before. I knew in an instant she must be a mom of an injured child, and she was. I could feel the pain and sadness, and I cried for her as well.
NO CHILD and NO MOTHER (FATHERS TOO) should have to go through this. People need to start hearing more about this injury and MUCH more than I was able to get across on the Dr. Phil Show, because it wasn't about the injury specifically and it wasn't about prevention. Each child has a story and each family has their journey. I just want more voices to be heard. SOMEDAY, and hopefully soon!
Thanks again guys,
Lisa

Lisa,
You know I am so proud of you for having done this show. I know it wasn't easy, making yourself the "sacrificial lamb" for this injury! Regardless of how it ends up "playing", you should be proud that you got Dr. Phil to say "brachial plexus" and "preventable" all in the same sentence

Re: BPI family on Dr. Phil, Dec. 13th
Great job Lisa! Perhaps we as a community could help Dr. Phil refocus his attention on the injury by contributing to his message board once the show airs? Wouldn't it be powerful to have 50 or 100 other moms and dads ask more questions about the injury and what can be done to prevent it in this type of forum? For a guy who has never said Brachial Plexus Injury to suddenly be inundated with many many families who have been afflicted by it... well it might just be the next step to Lisa's incredibly huge stride. Thanks Lisa for putting yourself out there for all of us!
P.S. cute picture of Tanner (I assume) on the Dr. Phil BB!
