Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.

Sorry to hear about your bpi Darlene, there are a number of posts here from people whose bpi was caused or made worse by surgery/medical treatment. In your case i would think the only way you could get proof that the bpi was caused by the surgery is if a specialist bpi surgeon did exploratory surgery to see just what the damage is and whether it could have been virally caused....of course you may be in the 'catch 22' situation so many others are, because of the disability you can no longer afford to see a specialist and there can also be problems with doctors not wanting to get each other into trouble. Maybe you guys need to get together and start making some noise! See post above re 'Did this happen to anyone else' for others injured by medics...

Hello,
Just to let you know I didn't know what bpi was either till to years ago. Mine happened due to a routine mamogram. I have teenage children and I don't think it is any easier at this age. I am in pain almost all the time, vever had a complete day in the last 2 years. I also take neurontin, plus others for the muscle spasms and inflamation. Although they probably take the edge off sometimes I just pray for the tolerable days. Alot of disbielief in medical people and others. I have just found this site and looking for others like me. Like my doctors have told me "Just tough it out" Iguess I'm not as tough as I thought.
