Today has been pretty bad/some good

Post by Tessie258 »

I pre-apologize, I'm mad!

Today my son was going to go get a thumb splint(Benik/Neoprene)and I called the school to see if they would fax me his IEP for the therapist to look at and after waiting about 2 and a half hours it still hadn't come, I called back....I finally got someone on the phone who said, "He doesn't have an IEP".

(mouth open catching flies)

As you can imagine I'm wondering if I've been lied to since the last meeting or if they have misplaced it(hardly). After all the trouble with the school and Jame getting D's and F's and the personal hell and torment he's gone through I'm wondering if they weren't just blowing wind up my behind making me believe they really gave a darn about my child.

Then....we were talking to the therapist who fitted his brace(she was great!) and we were discussing the problems Jame was having in typing(the teacher is sweet but doesn't know how to teach one handed method)...the therapist gave us ideas about propping up just the left side of the keyboard on books (rt.BPI) because He can't supinate or pronate. We came home and played with it and guess what!! It's not perfect but he can use his 3 middle fingers pretty darn good on the keyboard!! I am so happy to find this out but where in the heck has the school OT been for the first part of school? Couldn't they have caught this if he had been evaluated? He isn't getting the help he needs because he is smart and a good kid.
The therapist showed me a paper from ADA that said:

Other health impairment
9) Other health impairment means having limited strength, vitality, or alertness,...."

The school is basing their not giving him in school therapy, why?????

We arrived home too late from therapy to go back to the school but guess where I'm going in the morning?
I'm really happy that we can tip his keyboard now maybe he can work on getting his muscles to learn to type like that...I'm just so darn mad and let down because I feel like we've been betrayed and lied to again!!! And there's more..while I'm ranting and raving(sorry guys-I'm venting)
I just found out that the little quiz that my son has gotten an F on since the beginning of school has been based on a bunch of crap that I don't think belongs in our school system!! You can view it's content(another parent told me...the teachers never did)It's web page is at: http://www.channelone.com/
O.K. if anyone else wants to comment on this feel free...I may be just too mad to think straight right now but my son is 12 years old!!!! What does he need all this crap piped into his brain for!!!!
