Is there anyone out there that wishes they did not have the Mod Quad done?
We are waivering back & forth on this procedure at the present time (my son is 15 months old with a moderate ROBI).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

Re: Mod Quad
We are just out of mod quad and have seen nothing but excellent results. My daughter is almost the same age as your child. She lost absolutely no movement and has done great. Good luck in your decision.

Re: Mod Quad
I wish I did not have this done on my child. I honestly think it was a waste and did not gain anything it. I understand it has worked miracles for some kids but sadly enough, not for mine. I really wish it had made a difference and now I have to live with the additional pain i inflicted on my child in hopes of a gain. Surgery was done 2 years ago.

our child was younger than yours when he had this procedure and we have never regretted it for one second. In my opinion, it was the second best choice we have made for him. The first was primary surgery.

Re: Mod Quad
I had the mod quad done a year ago and I am glad I had it done. It helped alleviate the muscles that were tightening. As a person grows older your muscled tend to atrophy. The mod quad helped so that my muscles wont' shrink up anymore. My arm was shrinking and paralyzing itself. I regained two inches in length as well. I think as an adult that it was the best thing for me.

Re: Mod Quad
My baby experienced almost NO pain before, during and after the mod quad surgery. We gave her Tylenol with Codeine for the first day after surgery just in case, but it really was never needed. Nothing but exceptional results.
Re: Mod Quad
My granddaughter (LOBPI) had the mod quad when she was a year old, and we are extremely pleased with the results. She could not raise her arm higher than shoulder level before the surgery but afterwards she was able to lift her arm above her head. She is now 2 1/2 yrs. old and doing very well. We feel that the surgeries plus therapy and using TES and NMES have all helped her to recover as much function as she has at this time.

Re: Mod Quad
dani...you know we are thrilled that our daughter DIDNT have Mod Quad even though it was recommended when she was 10 months. But she could always get her hand above her head so it is hard to compare. Do lots of research and find out what parts of the Mod Quad they think he needs. I'm not sure if this is part of the Mod Quad but I know there is a controversy about the benefits of the pecs release. Have you been back to see Dr. Waters or are you leaning towards Dr. Nath?

Re: Mod Quad
We also chose not to do the mod quad and are very happy about our decision. We were able to make additional gains in supination, resolve dislocation, address internal rotation and preserve the integrity of the pectoralis muscle, by deciding on another procedure.
After speaking to several parents and getting various opinions, we felt that there were options which would allow us to avoid other surgeries in the future and that could address multiple issues, in addition to increased range of motion, etc. I would never try to sway any parent in any direction. I would never want to be responsible in any way for any surgical decision a parent makes. These decisions are BIG and they are hard to make, and they should not be made through the influence of others.
I can ONLY speak for our child, and I can say that for our child, we are very confident that the mod quad would not have been the best choice. There are options out there, so just thoroughly explore them and the long-term outcomes as well. By learning all that you can, you will be informed, and no matter what decision you make, you will find peace and comfort in that process.
