Re: ANTERIOR CAPS RELEASE
Is this procedure being performed primarily by Drs Kozin and Waters, or others beginning to realize the benefits of this procedure too and also performing this surgery?

Re: ANTERIOR CAPS RELEASE
My child had this procedure done as well. As far as I know Dr. Pearl, Dr. Kozin & Dr. Waters are the only surgeons performing it to date. It is probably hard for others to realize the benefits of procedures that they don't do and are not experienced with. However, in time I think good procedures will be recognized.
There was a presentation on this newer procedure at the World BPI recently told by another bpi specialist, who does not do this procedure, is that this surgery is only being done by orthopaedic surgeons since arthroscopic surgery is not something other specialties are trained in.
Guest, you will feel much better when you gain a thorough understanding of the procedure and what it is designed to address. I really feel the best place to start is directly with your doctor. There is where you should find the most accurate information. These doctors are all wonderful about taking the time to answer numerous questions. Some are very open to emails and phone calls as well. Asking questions and speaking directly with your doctor will help you feel much better about the surgery and should help in the decision making process.

Re: ANTERIOR CAPS RELEASE
Just curious....does anyone know if the anterior capsule release can be done on a child who has had other shoulder capsule surgeries such as capsulodesis, acromioplasty?

Re: ANTERIOR CAPS RELEASE
Rachel,
Good question. The doctors doing this surgery do not do the caps or acromioplasty. I am quite certain that they have done some on children who previously had the caps surgery, but I am not sure about the acromioplasty. I would tend to think that the more we change things around surgically, the more likely the outcome of the surgery might differ, but I don't really know how all of that plays out.
If you would like further information, you could probably contact one of the doctors, or if you would like, I could try to get some additional information for you directly from one of the doctors doing the procedure. Let me know if I can help in any way.
