Water Aerobics

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I weighed 11 lbs. 4 oz. when I was born.
I was delivered by forceps which resulted in my ROBPI.
I've never had any surgical intervention.

Water Aerobics

Has anyone done water aerobics for their arm? I just joined a class at the YWCA and I thought the Water would help my arm with strength and just overall.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.

I think that you will find water aerobics are great to exercise our arms.
I use to swim every day for many years and I think my arm was in much better shape. I think if I kept it up I might not have had the problems with loosing my ROM. I had PT to gain it back to my normal. I use the Hot Tub now to exercise my arm.

Water aerobics are great due to the fact the water makes you feel a lot lighter so the impact on your arm is not as great. I used to take empty milk jugs or use those foam (we call them water weiners) *L* and use them for exercise in the pool. I have noticed because I can't lift a lot of free weights with my arm I am starting to loose some more muscled tone. Water aerobics is great for building up the muscles again.
