? for TBPI People
Im sure most of you have used E-Stim and hopefully you can answer this for me... If you have had no movement in you arm/hand what so ever for nearly a year and youve been doing E-Stim for a few weeks, and you get a E-Stim feeling when youre not hooked up to it, What does this mean? James tells me sometimes he feels like hes having it when he isnt. I can only HOPE this is GOOD.

My esxperience is that is a good sign. It means that something is connecting somewhere in the arm. I get these sensations quite regularly! When I get one in my biceps, which is what we are ttrying to get back right now, I try to contract the muscle. If you work with the feelings, it can help connect the brain with the sensations. This is just my experience with my e-stem. Best of luck!

Court, Contract the muscle? You mean, think about trying to move the arm when this is happening? Ill be sure to tell him to try to move his arm when he gets this feeling!

Re: ? for TBPI People
Court, Thanks for helping me out! I hope your bi-ceps gets so good, they give YOU a workout! See, this is one thing I dont understand. E-Stim SEEMS to be one of the most important things you can do for atrphied muscles. How is it that Drs. cant tell their patients this up front when they are discussing with them all the things they will need to be doing in the future after they had surgery? I GUESS it may be like our case, wait a few months until you see the Dr. again for a follow up visit, and before you actually go, you find out about all the things other people are doing and you WANT it too, is this right Jamie? Hasnt your Dr.told you about E-Stim yet? I know before James Dr. mentioned it to us, I was finding out about it on the boards and I WANTED IT BADLY FOR JAMES- ANYTHING TO HELP HIM. I guess I was just jumping the gun, so to speak. James is currently, doing his deltoids, bi-ceps, and wrist extensors. Were working up to 30 minutes a day on each, 3x a day. This will decrease some if he starts getting movement back, because thet said it might overwork the muscles. He actually loves to do it. He said it 'FEELS" good to him, something he hasnt been able to do in almost a year, FEEL!! We just recently started letting him hook himself up and do it himself, and if we dont watch him he will probably want to sneak off and do it more than hes supposed to because IT FEELS GOOD! lol!
