Ken, I am by no means, an expert on BPI's but my husband was injured almost 4 months ago. He goes for his tendon transfer this Tuesday. But from the minute he got injured, he had no feeling in his right arm. I'm pretty sure with bpi's you don't gradually go numb. I think you should seek the advice of an attorney. Maybe others on this site can help you more since I'm relatively new at this. But my husband also had a severe dislocation which caused either avulsions of the nerves or just tears. Not sure which yet. Everyone I've talked to about this had no feeling right away. Where are you located at? How long did it take for someone to mention Bracheal Plexus Damage? How long ago were you injured? If you answer these questions, I'm sure someone here can help more than I can. Sorry about being so vague, but like I said, I'm new to this and I wouldn't want to point you in the wrong direction. Debi

Hi! I had an auto accident on February 27, 2000. I was orginally diagnosed with a severe sprain possibly even a break. Then I was told for the next six months it was RSD. Finally I was diagnosed with a tbpi.
What happened to you is awful! To be blunt you found more of our incompetant American doctors. On some of the previous messages you can read about the discussions we have had on this subject. For myself legally I got nothing but a medical chart that looks like a two year attacked it with scissors and scotch tape.

Hi, i don't know how your insurance system works but if you can get to see a BPI specialist you can stop wasting your time with the know nothing's - my shoulder was dislocated and fractured and if anyone had tried to reduce it before they put me out you would have heard me there, i can't BELIEVE that stupid doc did that! Mine was paralysed immediately, it sounds like that doc actually made your injury worse, chasing that can come later i would try see a BPI specialist asap, there are links off 'resources' section on this site's homepage, good luck!

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.

sorry to hear about what happened...they never look as incompetent as that in ER, do they? There are posts on a previous page about RSD and tbpi, go take a look. I think you should try and see a bpi specialist who regularly deals with adult tbpi as soon as you can, good luck in your search for answers :0)
