Dr. Nath in Phoenix

Post by Bridget »

Dr. Nath will be the keynote speaker for the Arizona Physical Therapy Association's annual conference held in Phoenix on March 9. He will then be meeting with children for free evaluations (Dr. Nath has obtained pro bono permission from the Arizona Medical Board to do so), and therapists will have the opportunity to observe those evaluations. Anyone interested in setting up an appointment to meet with Dr. Nath or to attend the conference should please contact Bridget McGinn at: bridget@ubpn.org or 602/996-1693 as soon as possible. Thanks.

Wow Bridget! that is great... curious to know, did you help set this up? I am so glad to know that these therapists will be educated by a specialist. There is such a lack of information for therapists.

Francine,

The conference is sponsored by the Arizona Physical Therapy Association. It is their annual event, and the therapists that attend receive educational credits. The Arizona Brachial Plexus Injury Support Group is involved in that we are facilitating the scheduling of appointments to see Dr. Nath during the afternoon session of the conference. Up to ten therapists at a time will be observing Dr. Nath during his appointments. Concurrent to the afternoon appointments are several other sessions related to therapy protocol for bpi (Terry Higbee leads this) and others I am not sure of.

What a terrific idea! I'm sure the PTs will benefit greatly from this experience...as will the Arizona families.

It sounds like a great learning experience for the PTs. The only thing that I would be concerned about though would be having up to 10 therapists observing an eval. I suppose as long as all the families understand that upfront and can decide in advance if they want to have an eval. as such for their child, then it's okay. While it's a great opportunity for the PTs, I just don't know if I would be willing to let Nicole volunteer to be evaluated with such an audience. JMO. -Tina :o)

Tina,

Yes, all the families are being notified in advance that there may be up to ten therapists observing during the evaluations. So far no one has minded in the least. Everyone so far seems really grateful for the opportunity to see Dr. Nath on a pro bono basis without paying for the travel expenses, etc. to Texas.

Hi Bridget,
Are the printed materials for this available yet? Savannah's therapist would like to go, and be part of her eval with Dr. Nath.
Thanks,
Stephanie

Hi Stephanie,

You will be receiving a mailing (all the people on our AZ support group list will) in the next couple of days. If your therapist is a member of the AZ Physical Therapy Association I'm sure she will receive one too. However, if you want to email me privately with her name and address I will make sure she gets one from us.

That's great that she is interested!
