Thanks Chloe's mom for the information. We have the splint you will be getting for your daughter. It is working great with Ashleigh as she also tends to keep her wrist in flexion and the thumb tucked in. The Rehab doctor also ordered a thumb loop (it holds the thumb out) to be worn 2 hours on and 2 hours off all day. He did note right before we went to have the brace made that she was able to extend the thumb much more but figured the brace could still help. Good luck with Chloe's bracing. And congrats again!

Congratulations!!! I just want you to know how much you have to HOPE for now that you are seeing movement. Nathan did not have any movement until 9 weeks old when he would start to raise his shoulder in a gravity assisted position. By 3 1/2 months he had perhaps about 100 degrees of shoulder flexion against gravity. However, he had an entirely straight arm - elbow extension only - till about 5 months or so (and of course, completely internalyl rotated). This is one pattern for natural recovery, and I want you to know that there is a possibility of very good outcome, even without surgical intervention. Nathan is now 2 1/2 years old and most people who look at him cannot tell there is anything wrong with him. He has basically full motion in all his muscle groups, even though supination did not really start coming in well until about 20 months of age, and external rotation did not improve until after 24 months of age. As long as you stay active with PT and OT I believe there is room for the child to keep on improving. I know there is an outer window for nerves to regenerate, but the actual motor patterns and muscle functioning from what I've seen keep continue to improve and improve! Believe, hope, pray, and work hard!!! Good luck with the recovery!
