- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: Hi! I am Laura, the mom of Tyler, who has a ROBPI. I've been a member of this site since 1998 and owe a great deal to the wonderful people in the UBPN community who have helped us along the way get what we needed to get done for Tyler. Tyler is now 14 years old and in the 9th grade. He's a super bright kid and loves his video games. Tyler had the mod quad surgery with Dr. Shenaq shortly before he passed. That was his first and only surgery. Now that he is older he is requesting additional surgery. He'd like to be able to supinate. Our goal is for Summer 2013.

Re: hotels near TCH??
Hi Jennifer---we are staying at the holiday inn (june 27 - july 3). We've never stayed there before, but the medical rate is only 59.00 a night (it comes to 69.00 with tax). We are staying for an entire week, and it's costing us a little over $400.00. I'm trusting that it will be an ok place to stay--I mean I've stayed in a holiday inn's before and they have been just fine. You have to call the local number to get the medical rate, and the number is 713-528-7744. Good luck!

Re: hotels near TCH??
I believe it was the Hampton Inn that we stayed at when we were there five years ago. They gave us a medical rate also and it was very nice and clean with a refrigerator in the room.... nice if you have bottles, baby food, teethers, and so on.
We had tried a place that had been a Holiday Inn or some chain before it had been sold (too old) and it had not been renovated and had not been cleaned well. It pays to ask when the last time renovations have been done and to ask to see a room before you check in so you can leave if you need to. Ask around to see if people have stayed there...
Expenses add up and we are all for saving money but staying someplace nasty is not good for the mental health.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn when we were there in January. Sometimes they will bump you to a suite for no charge. Our rooms were all nice and we went back and stayed there again in February. If you get a bad room, ask for another one.
We got $59 a night, and then you have to figure the taxes, but the will tell you how much they are so you can budget.

Just made reservations for September and they said as of July 1st the medical rate is $69. Just an FYI for anyone else heading to TCH later this year.

Does insurance very help pay hotel costs?
There's also a Best Western on Main Street. (Don't confuse it with another that is in the Medical Center area but much farther distance.) It's about three years old. I don't know what their medical rate is, but it is possible to reach TCH from there through the bridge system, without crossing the streets. The Mariott is right down the street from the Crowne and also has bridge access to TCH. (Now that the train is running, Fannin St. can be a little daunting!)

Re: hotels near TCH??
Just wanted to let you know that we stayed at the Crowne Palza in April of this year and they gave us a rate of $59.00 per night. This is the new Brachial Plexus clinic rate...which is different from the medical rate of $89.00 per night. You have to specifiy that you want the Brachial Plexus rate.
