lizzyb, I appreciate your honesty. I've been reading the ubpn forum for four years and have read about doctors, surgeries, drugs for pain, etc. but this is the first time I've heard things like another boy hiding his hand, or your personal feelings after the accident or someone else that bites their nails (even on the hand with no feeling?) and that helps. He would think it was stupid if he knew I was talking to other people with his same kind of injury. I know he has to get through this himself and it could take a long time - it's just hard to watch him suffer knowing I can't do anything about it. Thank you everyone for your advice.

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: I am ROBPI, global injury, Horner's Syndrome. No surgery but PT started at 2 weeks old under the direction of New York Hospital. I wore a brace 24/7 for the first 11 months of my life. I've never let my injury be used as an excuse not to do something. I've approach all things, in life, as a challenge. I approach anything new wondering if I can do it. I tried so many things I might never have tried, if I were not obpi. Being OBPI has made me strong, creative, more determined and persistent. I believe that being obpi has given me a very strong sense of humor and compassion for others.
Location: New York

I don't mean to chime in but... the obpi children often bite the bpi hand, nails and arms and in my case I lifted the bpi arm/hand with my unaffected hand just to bite it. I had more infections from chewing on my arm and nails and fingers... it has to do with sensory issues...
I don't do it anymore I hope this passes once he realizes how easy it is to get infections on bpi side.
wish I could help
