Jocey had her first shower after 19 days since the surgery

Yesterday, we went to visit Dr Klebuc. He says that the scars are sealing and seen very well. Is 19 days since Jocey's surgery. She is not ready yet to go back to school, he says that she must rest more in house around ten extra days. She had her first shower today. She did not want to take the shower because she do not want to see all the scars. All time she watched towards the opposed side of her arm and cried. She only asked for cover the scars with the bandages. The scars are seen far better.

The swelling is diminishing and he removed all the stitches. Also he removed the dead tissue from the skin transplant. Underneath that dark layer as coal, is leaving skin normal appearance. We though the skin would have different texture by being implanted but thanks to God it sees of the same color as the rest of the arm. That is the difference when the piece of skin is shaved versus when they cut the piece of sking. Dr. Klebuc advise us to begin the treatment for the scars with the Mederma gel now. This is a mild gel instead of the medical treatments for diminish scars who are more aggressive. Soon when the scars turn better she will begin a medical treatment to diminish the appearance of all the scars from her neck and leg. The scars of her forearm will be fixed with surgery within approximately six months.

Ivelisse - this is all such good news. Jocey's progress is amazing and she's SO BRAVE to have to deal with all she is dealing with.

I am curious if you are taking pictures of all of this because I'd love to help you set up a page about this. It will help so many other parents whose children need this type of procedure. Even seeing the black skin and what the scar looks like. It can really help. I know you searched for so long to find anybody else who had this procedure done and it was so hard for you to get information. So if you AND JOCEY are interested in doing this - just send me text and pictures and we will work together to give Jocey her own page.

And mom - you are such a strong woman to see her through such an ordeal. I pray for you for your strength to get through this time. I hope that you can at least find a moment to step into a hot bath to relieve some of the stress.

Hi Francine

Yes I got today the cd with the photos from the last surgery. My brother is an attorney and he advise me to wait until the end of the trial against the doctor.
We have to travel to Puerto Rico March 1 and we will be back to Houston March 11. After five years the trial will go! Will be March 4.

I have only three weeks to be ready to do this trip. Will be very hard because the surgery was recently. She still at home the surgeon said she is not ready to go back to school. She have to stay for two more weeks. I called the airline yet and requested a wheel chair for her.

All this AND a trial... oh Ivelisse - I'm so sorry to hear this BUT I am glad that this will be finalized soon. I certainly understand about the pictures - we'll wait till you get back home and rest!
