Medicaid Coverage

Post by BarbH »

Has anyone had surgery done with Medicaid being the primary insurance for their child? I just want to know what kind of fight I'm in for.
Thanks

I live in north carolina and have taken my daughter to four different doctors, all fingers pointed to texas, but medicaid denied us. They claimed that a north carolina doctor could perform the surgery that my daughter needed. when I took my daughter to see this doctor he said that he wanted to just wait things out and he was not interested in surgery. Every one else, including texas childrens feel that surgery is the best route for my daughter, so i do not know where to turn. my family has been fighting with the state for two weeks now and we will continue fighting until haley is better or they give up.

Haley, have you tried Shriners in PA? They do not take a fee for the surgery and are among the finest in the world for bpi.

I talked to the Medicaid people and she said as long as the surgery cannot be done in south Carolina and the doctor follows a "procedure" they will pay for they surgery. There is no doctor is South Carolina that can do this surgery. I did do some reasearch and confirmed it with some doctors and therapists I spoke to. But this is seeming to be to easy...hmmm...

Yes, I have. My son was sent to Texas twice through Ohio medicaid. It was my only choice. Hope that helps!

The key is to getting a surgeon in South Carolina to state that they cannot perform this surgery and strongly recommend Texas. I had to do this in Ohio as well. Good Luck!

I am seriously getting the run around here. Call this person, talked to that one. Send this letter, fax this there.
Is this even going to be resolved come May 3rd!?
