Auto Insurance Alert!

Post by Mindy »

Except for a handful of states that have banned it the auto insurance company is now basing your premiums on your credit record not your driving record. So be aware that it is legal!

Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.

....we'll expect to see a few more tbpi's here soon then, as crappy drivers with good credit ratings hit the road....and other road users! Now that really is madness..........

....what worries me is, I hope that the insurance co's. over here don't follow suit...can you imagine the amount of boy racers, with clean credit records, in their XR3i's and Mazda's, doubling overnight?? The only thing that keeps the little *&+!!*'s off the road is the cost of the insurance.....

....and we live in Essex; THE top county in the U.K. for boy-racers....! :0(

I am so glad somebody else thinks like me. I became aware of this because my insurance doubled! Meanwhile a friends went down by half! Now to tell the rest of the story. I have only had one accident and was found not to be at fault. The friend on the other hand has a DWI and more wrecks than you want to know about! The best she ever did was back out of her garage and hit a 100 year old oak tree and totaled the car! Now her rates went down because she has such a great credit record. My insurance agent said my went up because I have too many outstanding medical bills.

Now com'on lizzy, all the boy racers live in my town, Hawick, i even work with one who killed two people, about three months ago. And he's got 11 points on his licence already, so when he goes to court in 2 weeks that'll be him off the road, because he will be supping poridge,so we've got them in Scotland aswell, As you said i hope the same does'nt happen over here.

That is wild, Mindy! Where did you read about this? I would like to know if my state supports this. Lord, I hope that is not the only thing they are basing our insurance on. While lower rates for my 18 year old would be nice, I just can't seem to see the conection between my credit report and my driving record!

Hi George,
A boy racer is usually a spotty teenage boy ,who usually drives a piece of shit car,but for some strange reason recons its the dogs bollocks,
he drives this death trap ,with total dissregard for any other road user, usualy putting life and limb at risk!

Well thats nuts. What can you do tho? I reckon in a couple of years the insurance companies will realise they boobed when they covered the idiots for next to nothing who then make massive claims aginst their shareholders profits, money talks loud they will have to reassess i reckon. Shop around for cover, play em off against each other, lie that one company will cover you for 100 less see if another can match it? It's the game we play here come insurance renewal! good luck :O)
