how long is recovery possible from primary?

Post by christy »

Katie is 17.5 months post primary and it seems as though she is still getting slow recoveries. Like Nicole and the hand hurting, she is having more feeling in her hand. It seems to be more feeling right now than anything. Is it possible for the recovery to last that long or are we as far as she is going to get?

Hey Tina--I forgot to respond about the surgery the other night. We got a huge break--when pastoral services laid their hands on the nurse working on katie she took her first breath after about 20 minutes of being bagged! Plus, even though I work for the hospital where she was injured my insurance is such that I can get her the surgeries she needs. Sometimes I get down but we always get up and am greatful for those things.

Recovery from primary surgery is up to five years! We're 3 years post-primary but Dr. Shenaq said she could still recover from the primary. I'm optimistic that we'll get more biceps (weakest muscle right now). It was obvious to us we were still getting recovery of function 2 yrs. after primary.

Hello, When Ashley had her primary at 4 mths it seemed for a while after that nothing seemed to happen to quickly but around 12-18 mths post surgery she began to gain alot from the elbow up (skipping the elbow)it was awesome then she had secondary in November 01 she was almost 3 yrs old & that was the most exciting recovery of all cause every single day she was doing more & more. The primary seems to take longer to see results cause the nerves grow soooo slowly but the results do come :o) Melissa

Hi Ashley's mom
Jocey had her primary at 6 months and her recovery stopped four years after the surgery.

WOW! Thanks guys. I know Katie is still getting things going and wasn't certain what it was from. Guess I am looking to see if maybe the lower (Klumpke's) arm is going to get any more return. It sounds like it!

Thanks again for the hope.
