Thanks for that Rich
Lindakids, as far as I know there is no organised sharing of data between tbpi doctors. They do tend to present their results/protocols at international bpi symposia which happen regularly. There is also much more of a concensus on timing of surgery in tbpi, if avulsions are suspected, surgery is usually carried out as soon as possible after injury, some of our members at the uk group had nerve grafting/reimplantion surgery within hours. There are a couple of centres in Europe, London and Rome I believe, performing experimental type surgeries such as reimplantation of avulsed nerve roots directly into the spine, these surgeries and results are being done collaboratively I believe.
If anyone does know of any other collaboration between tbpi doctors I would love to hear about it.

- Injury Description, Date, extent, surgical intervention etc: January 1980 Yamaha RD200 vs 16 wheeler truck, result, 1 totally paralysed right arm. I was 21, now 54. I had no surgery, I don't regret this. Decided to totally ignore limitations (easily done aged 21) adapted very quickly to one handed life, got married, had 3 kids, worked- the effect of the injury on my life (once the pain stopped being constant) was minimal and now, aged 54, I very rarely even think of it, unless I bash it or it gets cold, then I wish I'd had it amputated :) Except for a steering knob on my car, I have no adaptations to help with life, mainly because I honestly don't think of myself as disabled and the only thing I can't do is peel potatoes, which is definitely a good thing.

Re: just an excerpt from a magazine
When I first read this article and that one certain sentence I had to read it over again b/c it didn't sound right to me.
BUT...I understood what he meant by it and I am sure for many reasons it was stated that way on purpose and not in details.
As my daughter being one of Dr Waters BPI patients I am certain of how he feels this injury happens! And please remember that the most important thing is the research around the world that is being done.
I don't believe that there was any wrong doing on the way this statement was made.

Rich,
Yes I understand that. It was just something that stood out to me. I guess I'm on the defense today:-) I relize he can't come right out and make accusations.
