Ella woke up this morning and for the first time she put her hand behind her head on her neck! She was always able to touch the top of her head in a funny way, but NEVER the back of her neck. We are only 7 weeks post op and 2 weeks post cast removal. This was the first thing to see so far. I asked her to do it over and over again! =)
She has done it so many times today. The stretching and therapy are making this surgery a success so far. I am a very happy mommy this morning.

That's great!
Emma (my daughter) is 12 weeks post-op from her 3rd surgery (biceps release, wrist capsoledisis --sp?-- and removal of a bone spur in her shoulder. She has made little improvements (positioning and reaching behind her back--couldn't really do that before); still waiting for those triceps to come into play!

Yeah, Ella!! I'm so happy for you and your family! How did Ella respond? Did she recognize that this is something new that she couldn't do before? I remember Nicole's B23 therapist putting stickers on the back of her pony tail holders in her braids or on the back of her neck and trying to get her to remove them.
Krista, it's great that you realize how beneficial the stretching and therapy are in making the surgery successful. I've always felt that is a key too. I know that Nicole wouldn't have the improvements she's had if it weren't for the surgeries as well as the therapy. Either one alone wouldn't have done it in my opinion. You deserve a pat on the back for being so committed to helping her. I know that it can be very time-consuming keeping up with all the therapy. Some day our children will grow up and mature and be so thankful for the countless hours we spent. In the meantime, try to hang in there. Positive feedback like new movements always helps!! -Tina
