New Here

Post by Jenna'sMom »

Hello all. In September my husband and I adopted a 32 month old daughter from China who was diagnosed with some sort of arm problem. Turns out it is Erb's palsy. We have a great pt who attended the symposium and told me about this site. The pediatric neurologist that we saw was not very helpful - didn't recommend any testing - said just keep on with pt. Jenna has some limited ability to move her arm - but her elbow is always bent, she has a knot in her bicep and can't suppinate her hand. I am subscribing to Karen Pape's site - but would welcome any suggestions for more information that you all might have. I am talking with our insurance company (Aetna) about getting a referral for Jenna outside our system - as there doesn't seem to be anyone in Rochester, NY who knows much about bpi.
Thanks for your assistance.

Jenna - guess what? An Aetna Case Manager was at the symposium, too! Please email me I will pass on her contact info to you.

This case manager spent extended time talking with Dr. Pape just so that she could learn more and more. I'm hoping that she can help you.

hi i just read your message and my 16 mo old son has erbs palsy. i know what you mean alot of people dont know alot about this injury. my son had surgery when he was 6 mo in boston childrens hospital with dr waters. his therapist said that he has gotten the best return than the kids that went to texas. he still has a long way to go but he is doing alot better. i see that you live in rochester i to live in upstate ny so the drive to boston isnt that bad, but if you are interested just write me back and i will give you the number to dr. waters office i am sure that he can help your daughter. look forward to hearing from you. ryann

Hi Jenna,
I'm Cindy mom to Melanie (4) and Matthew (2) both with right brachial plexus injuries. Melanie recovered by nine weeks and Matthew's injury was severe requiring surgery. We have taken the traditional route of therapy and also some alternatives such as chriopractic, acupuncture, myo-fascial release, reiki, and reflexology. We've also done kinesio taping and electrical stimulation.
