Joey is 11 wks old today and is moving his thumb, fingers, and wrist. He still hasn't lifted his bicep against gravity. He still holds his wrist in the "waiter's tip" position.
I'm looking for some feedback. Has anyone's child had the same movements and miraculously recovered on his/her own without having surgery?

Kristie:
Does Joey have shoudler movement yet?
Mariella has shoulder movement come in around 1.5 months. She had finger and wrist movement present at birth. She didn't have bicep function against gravity until she was just about 3 months old. It comes in a little at a time for most kids. That's if it comes in at all.
Ella didn't need nerve surgery, but she just had secondary surgery in Boston on Jan 22.
Stay hopeful! Things can change in no time!

Re: ROBPI - Thumb movement
Joey wants to "roll" his shoulder, but his arm doesn't seem to want to go with it. It seems like he's really trying, but the arm won't cooperate.
What exactly is "secondary surgery"? What did Ella need done?

Re: ROBPI - Thumb movement
The procedures for secondary surgery vary depending on the injury and the hospital doing the surgery.
Ella had shoulder work done (anterior capsule release) and a muscle transfer. Her surgery is to help correct her shoulder from subluxing, get it back into place and stabalize it. And the transfer along with the shoulder work will help her get a better ROM in her arm. If you want, you can email me. Ldybug4134@aol.com

Wrist is bent backwards and sideways with the palm up.
