Re: shoulder fusion
Hi suzanne, yes my b/f does have hand movement,he has about 1/3 movement to the front and side of him...he caused damage to the deltiod and suffers from alot of pain he was in motor vechile accident may last yr....like i said before the fusion is only going to give him some comfort...stop the dragging of the arm,so we have been told..sounds like it is a long recovery process which will be worth it in the end(...keeping fingers crossed...)

Re: shoulder fusion
from what i understand, lets say it doesn't help the pain and gives you no additional function........I do think it can make your arm look a little better espicially if your shoulder slopes downward. The surgery will, as I understand it, cement the humeral head into the shoulder socket.........thus making the shoulder more erect. It would then look a little more like the functioning side. I think they can even manipulate the hand a little if you want it palm to thigh.............my hand flips out after 5 years of strengthening my bicep which i'm not crazy about. I'm not positive but I think a DR. told me he could turn it inside..........but then I feel like that would have to affect my elbow flexion so I don't know about that.

Re: shoulder fusion
I had a shoulder fusion in Sept. of 2002. Depending on your pain situation use it for a last resort. You don't realize how much you need the range of motion untill you loose it..Ladies try doing your hair or tucking in a shirt. It is also VERY VERY hard on your upper back and neck.If you'd like to e-mail me about it I would be happy to try and answer any questions.

Re: shoulder fusion
you said your accident was 10 yrs ago. My sons was 9 yrs ago and has a complete avulsion. what surgeries did you have that didnt work? and who did them? My son has had none because of dr advice. Now we are talking to someone about surgeries. We are concerned because of the length of time. Please give me any info if you can. or email. Thank you

Re: shoulder fusion
Hi.. I had a fusion done in Sept of 2002...I really didn't have much choice because of a bone infection. I don't recommend this procedure to anyone that has a choice. It's very hard on your neck and upper back, causing headaches almost daily. Teri

Re: shoulder fusion
hi there, my name is nicole. I am due to have a shoulder fusion in early april after two failed reconstructions. I was just wondering how you felt about having it done and anything that would help me to prepare for it. I am 28 and have two children so fusion is the only option that i have to relieve my pain as my shoulder is constantly dislocated. Anything that you could tell me would be great! thanks

hi, my name is nicole and i am due to have a shoulder fusion in early april after two reconstructions have failed and my shoulder is dislocated all the time. Do you regret having yours done? I see this as my only option, but being only 28 i was hoping to get some more information. Can you help? Any advice or your experience of the operation would be greatly appreciated!
